Grant History and Policy
Lake County Retired Teachers’ Association has been awarding Active Teacher Grants since the 2017-2018 school year. The purpose of this grant is to fund any Lake County teacher who has an idea that will add a new way to reach their students but lacks the funds to put it into practice. Each teacher must apply for this grant. LCRTA distributes the application forms and guidelines to every school corporation in Lake County in August. Applications are due by September 30 and awards are given in early November. Grants will vary from $200 to $500 per grant recipient with a total of $2000 being awarded each year. Since the inception of the Active Teacher Grant LCRTA has given 25 teachers awards equaling $12,000.
2022 Lake County Retired Teacher Association Active Teacher Grants
Lake County Retired Teachers Association (LCRTA) is very pleased to announce that we have awarded five competitive Active Teacher Grants to teachers in Lake County schools. The purpose of this grant is to give active teacher recipients between $200 and $500 for a project they have planned but need funding to carry out. Teachers applied for grants by explaining their proposals and supplies needed.
The recipients of our grants were: Jane Clemmons from Hobart Middle School for the school’s ‘Care Closet’; John Cotey from Hanover Central High School for ‘Aesthetic Aspirations’ art supplies; Brigid Lukas from Morton High School in Hammond for gift cards for their incentive program ‘Top Hat Tickets’; Laurie Rosine from Hal E. Clark Middle School in Lake Central School Corporation for her ‘Project Lit’; and Tracey Caposey from Lake Central’s Watson Elementary for her ‘Fact Finders’ proposal.
Additionally, Indiana Retired Teacher Foundation funded two competitive active teacher grants in each of 10 areas throughout Indiana.
On November 15, 2022 Area I Director Dennis Keithley awarded Veterans Elementary School music teacher Audrey Amsler of the Hobart School Corporation [pictured below with principal Kacey Allen], a check for her program, “Literature in the Music Classroom.” The second Area I grant went to Argos Elementary School teacher Megan Barry for her program, “Biographies: Who Was,Who Is?” LCRTA & IRTA Foundation wish each of these teachers an outstanding school year and success with their proposed programs.
Note: Grant awards for school years 2019, 2020 & 2021 have been archived and are on the Forms and Other Links page.
